Block parties help promote a stronger sense of community, higher safety within the neighborhood and celebrate the reasons why people call Ankeny home. The City of Ankeny actively supports and encourages neighborhood block parties, including the opportunity to request a visit from the city’s public safety officials and the services of the public works department to provide the street barricades.

A Block Party Permit is required for all celebrations that include having a street blocked off. There is no fee for obtaining the permit. The permit also requires all home owners included on the street that will be blocked off to be notified and to agree to the street closing; a list of signatures must accompany the completed permit. The permit application must be returned to the City Clerk’s office at least ten business days in advance of the planned event.
