The mission of the Community Development Department is to promote the development of Prairie Trail, enhance the vitality of existing businesses and neighborhoods and implement the 2010 Ankeny Comprehensive Plan to fulfill the City Council's Mission and Goals. This department mission is accomplished by acting as a catalyst to improve the community and its neighborhoods.
The Department is committed to providing Ankeny's elected and appointed officials, citizens, businesses and the development community policies, programs, codes and information to support decisions and enhance the understanding of community building. Our work continues to shape Ankeny, maintaining the small hometown feel while being safe, active and vibrant with an ongoing effort to becoming sustainable.
Our day-to-day activities include working to create and promote, in partnership with Developers, the Prairie Trail master planned infill community; working to improve and revitalize older existing commercial areas of the community; and working to implement the key elements of the Ankeny Comprehensive Plan both within the City organization and within the development community. We work with the City Council, Plan and Zoning Commission, other City Boards and Committees, local, metropolitan and regional agencies and organzations by providing professional and technical expertise and advise to manage unique projects assigned by the City Council and City Manager.
