The Finance Department publishes two major financial reports annually: the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and the Budget Basis Financial Report. The fiscal year for all government organizations begins on July 1 and comes to a close on June 30. At the close of each fiscal year the Finance Department begins work on the completion of the two reports. Copies of the reports from recent years are available through our website or upon request by phone at (515) 965-6400.
Comprehensive Annual Financial Report
State law requires that all general purpose local governments publish a complete set of financial statements within nine months of the close of each fiscal year. This set of documents must be presented in conformity with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America and audited in accordance with auditing standards generally accepted in the United States of America by a firm of licensed certified public accountants or by the State Auditor's Office. Pursuant to that requirement, the City of Ankeny publishes the Comprehensive Annual Report at the close of each fiscal year. For the past nine years, the City has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting presented by the Government Finance Officers Association.
Cash Basis Financial Report
The Cash Basis Financial Report summarizes the financial activity for the last fiscal year and presents the actual against the adopted budget. Included in the report are revenue and expenditure comparisons and fund balance summaries. The information presented is the same information that will be reported to the State of Iowa. It is used to measure the City's legal budgetary compliance.
