ANKENY, Iowa (May 3, 2012) - In recognition of National Police Week, May 13-19, the Ankeny police department will have public tours of the Ankeny Police Headquarters located at 411 SW Ordnance Road. The tours will run from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 17. Each tour will be guided by Ankeny police personnel and last approximately 45 minutes.
The Ankeny Police Headquarters was completed in the spring of 2009. Designed by Wilson Estes Police Architects, the $17.5 million, 75,000 square-foot building includes a 14-cell holding facility, enhanced evidence processing, underground parking for vehicles and the only indoor tactical firing range in the state. The architectural design of the building features natural stonework, various wood finishes and a purposeful use of natural lighting. Every room has either a window or secondary light from another window. Beyond logistics, the design is intended to meet today’s staffing and technology needs with room to accommodate the city’s 20 year population projections.
Normal business hours for the police headquarters are weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The non-emergency telephone number is 515.289.5240. For the county-wide Communications Center/Dispatch, call 515.286.3333 to report non-emergencies.
