Does Kirkendall Library have meeting rooms for the public?
A:
Kirkendall Public Library has two meeting rooms available for public use which may be reserved 60 days in advance on a first-come, first-served basis. See more information on available rooms.
Where is the library?
A:
The library is located on the west end of Prairie Ridge Middle School at 1210 NW Prairie Ridge Dr.
Does the library have tax forms?
A:
We have just been notified by the IA Dept of Revenue that printed forms will not be available to libraries this year. We will continue to provide Federal tax forms.
Who can get a library card and how do I get one?
A:

If you are a resident of the State of Iowa you may become a registered borrower at the Kirkendall Public Library after presenting appropriate identification and proof of your current address. Any child under age 12 must have his/her library card application signed by a parent or guardian who must be present at the time the card is issued. Library cards are issued at the library’s circulation desk.

Does the library accept volunteers?

Where and when can I return items?
A:
Materials can be returned 24 hours a day at the drop box located at the exterior of the building near the main entrance or at the circulation desk during library hours. Materials returned to the drop box before the library opens will be backdated to the previous day.
What happens if I don’t return my items on time?
A:
Fines are charged for all items returned after closing on the due date and for each day thereafter that the library is open. Borrowing privileges are suspended whenever unpaid fines or other charges total more than $5.00. For videotapes, DVDs, and CD-ROMs the library charges $1.00 for each day past due. For other items, the library charges 10 cents for each day past due.
Does the Library provide computer classes and other adult programs?
A:
Kirkendall Public Library provides a variety of computer classes, guest speakers, and other educational programs for adults. All programs are free and open to the public. Check the online calendar for a complete schedule of events and all the Reference Desk at 515-965-6460 ext. 5 for program registration.
Does the library offer copying and faxing services?
A:
Yes. Our copier/fax machine can copy in both color and black and white on 8 ½ x 11 and legal paper. Black and white, 8 1/2 x 11 copies cost ten cents each. Fax services cost $1.00 for local calls and $2.00 for long-distance calls.
The item I want is checked out. What should I do?
A:
You may place a hold request on the item by phone (515-965-6460), via the Library's Online Catalog, or at the circulation desk. When the item is ready for pick-up, you will receive notice via email or phone.
What are my responsibilities for a lost or damaged item?
A:
Borrowers are charged replacement costs plus a $3.00 processing fee for lost items. Fees for damaged items are based on the extent of the damage. 
How many times can I renew an item?
A:
Materials can be renewed twice if not requested by other borrowers. Renewals may be made at the circulation desk, by phone during regular library hours (515-965-6460), or via the Library's Online Catalog.

Can I search for library materials from home?

You can search the library's entire collection through our online catalog.
Does the library accept donations?
A:
Yes. Donations of materials can be dropped off at the circulation desk. Monetary donations can be dropped off at the library or mailed to:

Is Internet access available at the library?
A:
The library has 32 personal computer work stations with high speed internet access. In addition, the library provides wireless internet access for those who wish to use their own laptops within the library.
When is the library open?
A:
Kirkendall Public Library is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.
How do I renew my items?
A:
You may renew materials twice if other borrowers haven’t reserved them. Renewals may be made at the circulation desk, by calling (515) 965-6460 during regular library hours, or from the Library's Online Catalog.
What are the library’s loan periods and how many items may I check out?
A:
There are no limits on the number of items you may check out at one time. However, you are responsible for returning all items checked out on your card by the date they are due. Videos and DVDs have a one week check out. Other materials check out for three weeks.
Can I get my overdue and reserve notices by e-mail?
A:
Yes. To receive overdue and reserve notices by e-mail, provide your email address to the circulation desk or call 515-965-6460.
