Emergency Medical ServicesAbout The EMS Division

Our goal is to provide the highest quality of care possible to the citizens of Ankeny and its visitors. The Ankeny Fire Department’s EMS Division provides Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) service to the City of Ankeny and northern Polk County. The EMS Division also provides ALS and transport services for the towns of Alleman and Elkhart. Full time and paid per call personnel provide Paramedic coverage for our responses. The Ankeny Fire Department has three ambulances that respond out two stations. In 2011, this division responded to over 2,000 calls for service.

Medical Director

Alan Heberer, DO, FACP has been the medical director for the department for over 20 years. He is a full-time Emergency Room Physician at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Apparatus

Three ambulances are available to respond to calls for service. Two first-out fire engines equipped at the paramedic level are available to respond to multiple emergencies.

Ambulance Billing

Ambulance billing occurs for patient transports and responses where care is provided on scene but the patient refuses transportation to the hospital. If you have questions regarding your ambulance bill, please feel free to contact our billing department, during regular office hours at 515-965-6475.
