Enjoy family time at June 25 park social

ANKENY, Iowa (June 19, 2012) - The Ankeny Park Board this summer is hosting a series of ice cream socials once a month through September. The socials provide an opportunity for Ankeny families to enjoy an evening at the park and get to know members of the Ankeny Park Board and Parks & Recreation staff. Games for kids will also be part of the evening’s festivities.
“We want to hear directly from our residents what they enjoy about Ankeny’s parks and their ideas for improvement,” said Parks & Recreation Director Todd Redenius.
The five parks were selected because of their varied locations and age.
“Some of our parks are brand new and others have been in place for years; it’s important to us that we provide park users with the amenities they are looking for.”
Each social runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
A special thanks to Anderson Erickson Dairy for donating the ice cream.

Monday, June 25: Sawgrass Park – SW Sawgrass Parkway
Monday, July 30: Watercrest Park – NW 8th Street and NW Jackson Street
Monday, August 27: Crestbruck Park – NE 9th Street and NE Crestmoor Place
Monday, September 24: Hillside Park – SE 20th Street and SE Four Mile Drive
About the Ankeny Park Board
The Ankeny Park Board serves to advise and assist the City Council in planning establishing, purchasing, maintaining, supervising and improving parks, trails, open space and recreation facilities and to organize and administer a variety of recreation programs to meet current and future community needs.
Park Board members are volunteers, appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council.
