[ARCHIVED] Ankeny Fire Responds to House Fire

The Ankeny Fire Department responded to a fire in a garage in the 3100 block of SE Honeysuckle Court at approximately 1 p.m. on March 12, 2023. Initial reports were that an explosion occurred and that people were injured. Fire and EMS crews arrived on scene quickly and began to treat two patients that suffered burns and one patient that suffered smoke inhalation from a fire that occurred in the garage while working on an ATV.

Multiple ambulances were called in to assist in treating the patients. One patient was transported to a local hospital in serious condition and the other two were treated and released on scene. The fire was contained to the garage and did not cause damage to the rest of the home. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Ankeny Fire Department would like to thank the Ankeny Police Department, Polk City Fire Department, Saylor Fire Department, and Mid-American Energy for their assistance with the call.

With the recent daylight saving time change, the Ankeny Fire Department would like to remind all citizens to please change the batteries in their smoke alarms.
