On Saturday, May 6, the Ankeny Police Department invites all cycling enthusiasts, regardless of their skill level, to join them for a fun-filled and informative morning of cycling. The event will commence at the Ankeny Market & Pavilion at 8 a.m., located at 715 W First St.
The day will begin with quick bike checks, and attendees will receive bicycle helmet fit checks and helmet giveaways (while supplies last). Cyclists will have the opportunity to converse with Ankeny Police Bicycle Patrol Officers about local and state cycling laws.
In addition, four obstacle courses will be set up, catering to both beginners and experienced riders. The experienced courses will include drills required for ILEA certification for Bicycle Patrol Officers.
The event will culminate with a ride of your choice, which will begin at 10 a.m. from the Ankeny Market & Pavilion. Cyclists can choose between a 2-mile ride (4-mile round trip) or a 15-mile ride, where they can explore the beautiful trail network of Ankeny alongside Ankeny Bicycle Patrol Officers.
The event aims to promote awareness of cycling safety and to create a positive relationship between the community and the police.
The Ankeny Police Department is thrilled to host this event and looks forward to a fun day of cycling.
