City of Ankeny to Hold Special Election

The City of Ankeny will hold a special election on March 29, 2022 to fill a seat on the City Council vacated by Mark Holm, who was elected Mayor in November and took office Jan. 1, 2022.

Last night, the Ankeny City Council approved a resolution to set a special election to fill the remainder of Mark Holm’s term, which expires on Dec. 31, 2023. Any Ankeny resident interested in running for the Council seat can file an Affidavit of Candidacy and nomination papers with the Polk County Election Office beginning Jan. 4, 2022. The deadline to file is Feb. 4, 2022. If more than two candidates file, a primary election will be held on March 1, 2022. The special election will be held on March 29, 2022. More information about the election is available at the Polk County Auditor’s website: https://www.polkcountyiowa.gov/county-auditor/election.

The Ankeny City Council also approved a resolution providing notice of its intent to temporarily fill the vacancy by appointing Kerry Walter-Ashby until the March 29 special election determines the next City Council member. The Council will consider the temporary appointment at its Jan. 18 meeting.
