1. Erosion Problem

If there is an area where erosion is occurring, the City will investigate the area and determine whether this is a public infrastructure issue or a private issue. Please fill out the form below to report the erosion problem.

2. Sewer Odor

If sewer odor is coming into your home, it is usually because you have a dry “P” trap or a blocked vent.

3. Standing Water in Yard

If water is pooling, standing and/or draining slowly in your yard, do not enter the water unless you can see the bottom and the water is not moving. If the water is moving, do not enter it. Look for obvious blockages in the normal drainage path, such as tree limbs, or an intake that may be blocked.

4. Stormwater is Flooding the Street or Sidewalk

If your street is flooded, "turn around, don't drown." Never drive, or walk into a flooded street. Keep all children out of flood waters.

5. Sump Pump Discharge

Sump pump discharge is typically a private matter between you and your neighbor. However, the City of Ankeny's Code Enforcement Officer will investigate and talk to your neighbor.

Sump pumps should be plumbed to discharge to a storm sewer system (not the sanitary sewer).

If no storm sewer is available, sump pumps should discharge above ground, within the property boundary. There are other possible discharge methods, but above-ground and to storm sewers are the most common.
