Mayor Holm is serving his first term as Mayor on the Ankeny City Council. He was elected as Mayor of Ankeny in November 2021 and began serving his term in 2022. Prior to serving as mayor, he was a council member for the past 10 years, 9 of those as mayor pro tem.
In addition to his responsibilities as Mayor, he serves the community as a member of the Metropolitan Planning Organization Policy Board and Executive Committee, Metro Advisory Council, Greater Des Moines Partnership Board and Executive Committee, City/School Subcommittee, Mid Iowa Association of Local Governments, Metro Waste Authority Board, Ankeny Area Chamber of Commerce Board and Executive Committee, Ankeny Economic Development Corporation, Uptown Ankeny Association, Polk County Emergency Management along with various other local and regional task forces and committees.
Mayor Holm works for the Iowa Department of Transportation and holds the title of Public Service Manager 1 in the Right of Way Bureau in Ames, Iowa. In his position, he administers the statewide right-of-way acquisition and relocation assistance programs for highway expansion projects.
As a council member, he served on the City/School Subcommittee, Metro Waste Authority Board including Chairman of the Board, and Ankeny Sports Complex Foundation. Mayor Holm has also volunteered for the New Horizon Adult Care Center, Ankeny Summerfest Committee, Backpack Buddies, and the Ankeny Service Center. Prior to his election to the City Council, he served on the Ankeny Zoning Board of Adjustment.
Mayor Holm and his wife Kari (Vogt) have three sons. Kari is a surgical nurse at Methodist Hospital. Kari is a graduate of Ankeny High School, Iowa State University, and Grandview College. He was raised on his family’s farm near Corydon, Iowa and has lived in Ankeny since 2002.
Mayor Holm has a B.A. degree from Iowa State University, where he majored in political science with a minor in Entomology. He also holds a Certified Public Manager certification from Drake University.
