Captain Makai Echer has been employed with the City of Ankeny since 1995. During her career, Captain Echer has been a patrol officer, patrol sergeant, and patrol lieutenant. In 2011, she was the first woman to be named captain, which is the second-highest rank in the Ankeny Police Department. In 2018, Captain Echer became the first woman to serve as Interim Police Chief in the City of Ankeny history. She is currently assigned as the operations captain.
