Ankeny Fire Department Responds to Residential Fire

City of Ankeny Fire News Posted on July 19, 2025

Today, at approximately 12:58 PM, the Ankeny Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire on SW Ash Court in Ankeny.  A neighbor made the call to 911, indicating that the house was on fire.

While responding, units noticed a large plume of smoke and upgraded this incident to a 2-alarm fire, bringing additional assistance from other fire departments.  The Ankeny Fire Department arrived on scene to find a well-involved fire in the attic of the residence.  Crews immediately began to extinguish the fire and aggressively search the residence for any occupants or pets.  Before having to evacuate the residence due to extreme fire conditions, crews were able to pull a dog and cat from the fire.  The majority of the fire was extinguished from the exterior, using a ladder truck’s elevated master stream.

No one was home at the time of the fire.  There were no injuries reported and the fire caused extensive damage to the home.  The Ankeny Fire Department would like to thank these agencies for their assistance:  Ankeny Police Department, Altoona Fire Department, Bondurant Fire Department, Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire District, Mid-American Energy, Polk City Fire Department, and the Polk County Sherriff’s Office Communications Center. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no other information is available at this time.
