The Ankeny Police Department offers a four-day self-defense training program designed specifically for women called Rape Aggression Defense Systems (RAD). This 12-hour course is taught in four three-hour sessions from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ankeny Police Department, located at 411 SW Ordnance Road.

Rape Aggression Defense Systems (RAD) is the largest self-defense network in the country.
- Focuses on awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and basic physical defense techniques
- Course includes a "realistic simulation" where students test their skills in a simulated attack
- Taught by certified instructors from the Ankeny Police Department
- $35 course fee includes a training manual and a lifetime return practice policy
- Designed specifically for women interested in learning self-defense
- Mothers and daughters are encouraged to attend together
- Minimum age to participate: 14 years old
- Participants under 18 must have written permission from a parent or guardian
