Self-Defense Training (RAD)

Self Defense TrainingThe Ankeny Police Department offers a four-day self-defense training program designed specifically for women called Rape Aggression Defense Systems (RAD). This 12-hour course is taught in four three-hour sessions from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ankeny Police Department, located at 411 SW Ordnance Road.

Rape Aggression Defense Systems (RAD) is the largest self-defense network in the country.

  • Focuses on awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and basic physical defense techniques
  • Course includes a "realistic simulation" where students test their skills in a simulated attack
  • Taught by certified instructors from the Ankeny Police Department
  • $35 course fee includes a training manual and a lifetime return practice policy
  • Designed specifically for women interested in learning self-defense
  • Mothers and daughters are encouraged to attend together
  • Minimum age to participate: 14 years old
    • Participants under 18 must have written permission from a parent or guardian
