The Economic Development department, along with several community partners including, Des Moines Area Community College, Ankeny Chamber of Commerce, Ankeny Community School District, and the Ankeny Business & Industry Collaborative, work to serve as an employment and training connection for employers, job seekers, and youth throughout Ankeny.

We connect employers with resources to find a trained and ready workforce, and assist job seekers with needed skills to secure sustainable employment by communicating employer needs to local training program administrators and workforce partners.

We also help facilitate programs such as the Ankeny Leadership Institute, to train future Ankeny leaders in valuable leadership skills and the Student Academy and Teacher Externship Program to get hands on business experience for both students as well as their teachers in the Ankeny business community.

Community College/State of Iowa Training Resources

The Des Moines Area Community College Business Resources is the first choice of Central Iowa businesses for talent development. Qualifying businesses can access training and consulting services funded through the programs described below.

The Iowa New Jobs Training Program (260E) supports businesses adding employees through expansion in, or relocation to, Iowa. The flexible funding of the 260E program allows businesses to implement an effective training plan for new employees.

The 260E program is of no cost to the business. Training is funded by DMACC through the sale of certificates for the amount of anticipated tax revenue generated from new employee salaries. The revenue generated from the certificate sale is used to establish a training fund for the business. The training can be delivered by any vendor, including DMACC.

The Iowa Jobs Training Program (260F) provides state-funded forgivable loans or grants to Iowa businesses needing to train their existing employees. A loan is forgivable if a business completes its training program and trains a specified number of employees.
