How to Borrow Materials
To borrow books, magazines, DVDs and more from the library, you will need an Ankeny Kirkendall Public Library card, which must be presented each time you check out. Photo ID can also be used. Check out is not allowed if your account is expired or has $4.99 or more in fines.
The library is not responsible for monitoring the materials any person borrows, regardless of age.

Confidentiality
We will not share information about an account, such as items checked out or fines owed unless permission has been granted by the account holder; to do so, the account holder must call the library at 515-965-6460 opt. 3 or email library@ankenyiowa.gov. Permission is assumed when the physical card is present.
Renewing Materials
Most items check out for three (3) weeks at a time and can be automatically renewed up to two (2) times. An item may not renew automatically if it is being held for another borrower, your account is expired, or you have fines exceeding $4.99. You may renew items or check your due date(s) at the circulation desk or self check out stations, by phone or email during regular library hours, or by logging on to your library account.
Returning Materials
Items can be returned at the circulation desk, or the inside or outside book returns on the parking lot side of the building. Ankeny items returned to another library will have the date dropped off honored as the return date.
Notices & Overdue Items
Notices are sent by text or email when items are being held, coming due, automatically renewed, or are overdue.
Items not returned by their due date will be assessed an overdue fine according to the library's /DocumentCenter/View/422 Circulation Policy and /DocumentCenter/View/423 Fines and Fee Policy. Fines can be paid in person, via phone, or on your library account. A $1 minimum is required when paying with a card.
Lost & Damaged Items
If an item is lost or damaged beyond repair, you will be asked to pay a replacement cost and processing fee. No refunds are issued if a patron finds lost items after payment.
