The Summer Library program plays a crucial role in supporting continuous learning, promoting literacy skills, nurturing a love of reading, encouraging critical thinking, and building community among participants. Join us for a summer packed full of fun programs and events for all ages!

Who can participate in the Summer Library Program?

Anyone and everyone! All ages are welcome to participate in the program: babies, kids, teens, and adults.

Why participate in the Summer Library Program?

Chances to win weekly prizes (Target and local business gift cards).
All participants receive a FREE book June 24-29.
FREE admission to the Finale Pool Party at Cascade Falls on July 30.
Attend FREE and fun events throughout the summer.
For Ankeny students, the elementary school with the highest participation rate wins a trophy and bragging rights for the 2025-2026 school year!

Mark your calendar with these important dates:

May 15: Sign up begins at the library or online here! Summer event calendars are available in the library, online, or to print.
- Youth June July Calendar (Birth through 5th grade)
- Teen June July Calendar (6th through 12th grade)
- Adult June July Calendar (18+ years old)
May 29: All ages Summer Library Program Kickoff.

June 24 - June 29: Summer Library Book Giveaway. All participants receive a FREE book for making it to the halfway point of the Summer Library Program! Can't make it this week? A selection of books will be available at the Circulation Desk (1st floor) from June 30 - July 3.
July 29: Last day to turn in logs. They are due by 8 PM.
July 30, 7:15 PM - 9:15 PM: Finale Pool Party. All participants receive FREE admission to Cascade Falls to celebrate the end of the Summer Library Program!

How do I...

Sign up for the Summer Library Program?
- Signing up is easy! Fill out the online form or sign up in person at the library, then visit the library between May 15 - July 28 to see your name on display in the lobby.
Complete an activity log?
- Print an activity log here or pick one up at the library.
- Read, learn, or do an activity for 20 minutes!
- Mark your progress by filling in the suns on the activity log. After all suns are filled, put your contact information on the bottom of the activity log. Bring the log to the library, and drop it in the prize drawing box, located in the HOLDS area.
- Each log equals one entry for the weekly prize drawing (Target gift cards). The more logs you turn in, the better your chances of winning. All activity logs must be turned in by July 29.
Win prizes?
- To be eligible for weekly prizes, simply turn in your completed activity logs at the library! Each week, we will draw names and those lucky winners will receive a Target gift card. Winners will be contacted Wednesdays by noon, June 4 - July 30.
