Solicitor's License

All solicitors, peddlers, and transient merchants are required to be licensed by the City of Ankeny. Residents are encouraged to ask peddlers, solicitors, and transient merchants who may visit their homes to display their City of Ankeny solicitor's badge.

Residents who encounter unlicensed solicitors are encouraged to file a report with the Ankeny Police Department at 515-286-3333.

If a solicitor who is not on this list attempts to conduct business with you and fails to produce a valid solicitor's permit, please contact the Ankeny Police Department non-emergency number at 515-286-3333 to file a report.

Door-to-Door Solicitors

All peddlers, solicitors and transient merchants must obtain a Solicitor's License from the City of Ankeny. The purpose of a Solicitor's License is to protect residents against fraud, unfair competition and intrusion into the privacy of their homes.

If approved, each solicitor is required to keep their license in their possession at all times while conducting business in the City and be able to produce the license upon the request of prospective customers as evidence of compliance with the City's Municipal Code, Chapter 132.

A non-refundable $20 application fee is required at the time of submission. Licenses can be obtained for a period of one day up to six months. Rates vary based on the length of the license.

Pursuant to the City's Municipal Code, hours of solicitation in the City of Ankeny are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Soliciting is not permitted on Sundays or national holidays.
